Caring Children, Clothing Children. 171 SW Monterey in Stuart (Thrift Store) 221-8777. Accepts children/teen clothing in good to excellent condition, children¡¯s books and videos. Donation hours: Wed/Fri afternoons.
Hibiscus Children¡¯s Center (facility for abused children). 839 N. Federal Highway in Jensen Beach just over the Roosevelt Bridge on the right (Thrift Shop) 692-5730. Will pick up furniture. Accepts children clothing, books, toys, videos, needs twin beds with no stains plus bedding, 'we take anything in good shape!' Donation hours: Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri 10 am to 4 pm; Thursday 10 am to 8 pm; Saturday 10 am to 1 pm. Use front door unless you have a large load. If you have a large or heavy donation knocks on the big back door and they will come and help you!
Good Will Industries. 1892 Federal Highway in Stuart 287-3666. Accepts almost everything, including cell phones, computer keyboards, monitors, but NO hard drives. Furniture pickup 800-257-3305. Car donations 772-342-1167. Donation hours: Monday through Friday 9 am to 8 pm. Saturday/Sundays 10 am to 6 pm.
SafeSpace (shelter for abused women/children). 613 Colorado Avenue in Stuart (Thrift Shop¡ªthe old Twinkles Store) 287-7505. Accepts Wal-Mart, Publics, Winn Dixie gift cards, gas cards for victims to get to work/find job, food, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, towels, washcloths, hand towels, twin/standard sheets, pillow cases, blankets, batteries, flashlights, any and all toiletries, books, adult and children puzzles, playing cards, toys, games, women/children clothing, diapers, baby wipes/lotion/powder/shampoo, crib sheets, baby blankets. Donation hours: Monday through Friday 10 am to 5 pm. Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm.
An India Village School. In 2000, Ram &Santosh Arya of 190 Palm Cove Drive started a charity school in their village in India. At present there are 650 students from K to grade 9th. They hope to expand to include high school classes. They go to the school twice a year for 4 weeks each time. School charges are only $6 a month. Besides all the capital expenditures, they make up the deficit each year. Library books are the only outside help they seek and would greatly appreciate any donations. No other monetary donations are solicited. An opportunity exists for American volunteers to teach. Room and board are provided. Cell Phones for Soldiers. Since 2004, teens Brittany and Robbie Bergquist and Cell Phones for Soldiers have raised millions of dollars to help our troops call home. Proceeds from donated cell phones are used to purchase prepaid calling cards for American troops. Go to www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com for easy to follow shipping instructions.
House of Hope. 2484 SE Bonita Street in Stuart 286-4673. Donation hours for Stuart: Monday-Friday 9 am to 4 pm, Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. 1313 NE Jensen Beach Blvd. in Jensen Beach 225-1060. Donation hours for Jensen Beach: Tues/Thurs/Friday 9 am to 4 pm, Wed. 10:30 am to 4 pm, Saturday 9 am to 3 pm. Call for furniture pick up. Habitat For Humanity ReStore. 2555 SE Bonita Street in Stuart 223-8991. Accepts new or used building supplies, materials or household goods, including appliances, kitchen cabinets, wood flooring, tile, lighting fixtures, fans, hurricane panels, electrical and plumbing supplies, and furniture. Will pick up large items. Donation hours: Tuesdays from 9 am to 3 pm.
In the Image of Christ. 1203 Orange Avenue in Ft. Pierce 772-461-7788. This agency works with a focus on HIV/AIDS prevention. Their food pantry feeds about 1,000 people per week. They accept food, clothes, shoes, furniture, computers, and vehicles, plus 'just about anything.' Their clients are never charged and can receive help with utility bills and housing, as well as participate in many health education programs for teens and at-risk populations.
